Service Description

In this focused, hands-on day, you’ll be introduced to how this lightweight, heat-responsive material can be shaped, moulded and transformed to create striking sculptural millinery. Working step-by-step with Maor, you’ll learn how to heat, manipulate and sculpt thermoplastic, exploring its potential for creating structure, texture, movement and beautifully unexpected forms. You’ll gain a strong understanding of the core techniques and have the opportunity to experiment and begin developing your own ideas. Combining technical expertise with Maor’s highly creative approach to design, this masterclass encourages you to experiment, challenge conventional construction methods and discover new possibilities for your work. During the day you will learn: How to safely heat, shape and manipulate thermoplastic Techniques for creating sculptural and three-dimensional forms How to create texture, curves, structure and movement Methods for joining, constructing and finishing thermoplastic How thermoplastic can be combined with traditional millinery techniques How to begin developing the techniques into your own designs Suitable for milliners and makers looking to expand their technical skills, experiment with alternative materials and take a more sculptural approach to their work. A full day of experimentation, creativity and contemporary millinery – introducing a completely new way of thinking about hatmaking.
