THE ART OF FELT MILLINERY

WITH RACHAEL CLUNIE

Step into the world of contemporary millinery and spend a day in the studio creating your own beautifully crafted felt hat. In this immersive workshop, milliner Rachael Clunie will guide you through the traditional techniques used in bespoke hat making. From shaping felt over a wooden block to hand-finishing with elegant trims, you will learn the foundations of millinery while creating a hat that is entirely your own. Designed for complete beginners as well as those with a creative background, this workshop offers a rare opportunity to experience the artistry behind luxury headwear in a relaxed and inspiring setting.​

SINASILK MASTERCLASS
WITH MAOR ZABAR

Discover SinaSilk, an innovative millinery technique developed by internationally renowned milliner and RCM Guest Designer Maor Zabar. Combining two familiar millinery materials — silk and sinamay — Maor has created a unique textile that brings together the qualities of both, opening up exciting possibilities for sculptural and three-dimensional design. During this hands-on masterclass, Maor will reveal his technique for creating SinaSilk before guiding you through the process of manipulating, shaping and transforming the material. You will explore pattern-making, colour and surface techniques, and learn how heat and steam can be used to take the material from a flat textile into expressive three-dimensional forms. With Maor’s guidance, you will develop your ideas from initial concept through to construction and assembly, creating a beautifully finished piece while discovering the extraordinary creative potential of this versatile material. WITH MAOR ZABAR

In this immersive masterclass, you’ll explore the creative possibilities of thermoplastics, learning how to manipulate and shape the material to create striking, lightweight sculptural forms without traditional blocking methods. Through hands-on experimentation and guided tuition, you’ll discover how thermoplastics can be formed, moulded and constructed to create structure, volume and movement, opening up exciting new possibilities for contemporary millinery design. Whether you’re an emerging maker or an established milliner, this masterclass offers the opportunity to develop new techniques, expand your technical skills and experiment with a versatile material that allows you to approach shape and construction in an entirely different way. JAPANESE SILK FLOWERS

WITH ELENA KORNIENKO

Elena Kornienko will share this rare Japanese silk flower technique in a very special two-day masterclass. Elena will introduce the fundamentals of Japanese silk flower making, including petal shaping, colouring and traditional assembly techniques. Through detailed demonstrations and hands-on tuition, you’ll learn how to transform silk into beautifully refined, lifelike flowers, exploring the subtle shaping, colouring and construction techniques that give each bloom its individual character. You’ll discover how individual petals are prepared and formed before being carefully assembled, building an understanding of both the technical precision and artistry behind this beautiful Japanese craft. Across the two days, there will be time to develop your skills, experiment with colour, form and composition, and explore how these traditional techniques can be interpreted within your own creative work. Perfect for milliners, textile artists and anyone with an interest in craftsmanship, the masterclass offers a rare opportunity to learn a specialist technique that can be used to create exquisite floral embellishments for headpieces, millinery and other creative projects. One-to-one millinery tuition, tailored entirely to you.

Whether you’re looking to master a particular technique, develop an existing design, troubleshoot a project or simply spend focused time developing your millinery skills, private tuition offers the opportunity to learn at your own pace with Rachael in her Brighton studio.

Each session is individually tailored around your experience, interests and what you would like to achieve. From blocking and construction to trimming, sculptural techniques and design development, the content can be shaped around the areas you most want to explore.

Private tuition is suitable for both those relatively new to millinery and more experienced makers looking for dedicated time to develop a particular skill or idea.

Sessions can be arranged as a half day, full day or over multiple days, depending on what you would like to work on.
